Elementary schools - Overlord Museum - Normandy 44

Located in the heart of the historic site of Omaha Beach and only a few hundred meters from Colleville-sur-mer American Cemetery, the museum and its collection aim to transmit the duty of remembrance to adults as well as to younger generations. Welcoming school groups is therefore an integral part of our mission.
Through a tour retracing the origins of the D-Day Landings until the Liberation of Paris, students will discover scenes on a scale of 1:1, accompanied by sound and light effects, to allow a better understanding of the period.

Duration : Variable. We recommend a minimum of 1 hour on site.

Guided Tour and Workshop

For groups who would like a more complete experience, the Museum offers an educational package containing a guided tour including a series of 4 workshops.

The guided tour, which lasts 45 minutes, covers the main stages of Operation Overlord through 6 stops dealing with the following themes :

The preparation of the Landings
June 6, 1944 Landings
The Battle of Normandy
Life on the battlefield (supplies, medical care…)
Veterans’ testimonies
The Liberation of Paris and peace building

The workshop part is also 45 minutes long, including 4 different activities that will allow students to use their knowledge and acquire new ones in a playful way. Adapted to each student’s level, these workshops cover everyday objects, geography, important historic characters and the French phrase book used by the Americans.

Conditions :

In order to ensure a comfortable visit for all, groups may not exceed 50 students. We recommend that you plan 2 hours on site, for the visit and the workshops.
An accompanying person in addition to the teacher is necessary for the smooth running of the various activities.
