In 1944, as Europe fought for liberation, another decisive battle unfolded — silent yet fundamental. The battle to safeguard universal heritage.
The Overlord Museum, in partnership with AWAY FROM HOME, presents an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the “Monuments Men”: art historians, curators, architects, and officers integrated into Allied forces to protect and restitute cultural treasures threatened by war.
Born in response to the systematic looting orchestrated by the Nazi regime, this “art commando” embodied the union of culture and courage.
Through an ambitious chronological journey, the exhibition honors leading figures such as Rose Valland and James Rorimer, illuminating their exemplary commitment on the “art front.”
At the crossroads of memory and cultural diplomacy, this exhibition highlights the inter-Allied restitution effort — a cornerstone of renewed dialogue among nations. An invitation to rediscover a defining chapter of European history, where art became an act of resistance and a symbol of reconstruction.
